RENO, Nev.— Tonight the Reno Bighorns selected 6-5 guard Desmon Farmer with their first-round pick in the 2009 NBA Development League Draft. The Bighorns made seven other selections, and will invite 17 players to training camp in Reno, which begins next week.

Reno selected Farmer with the seventh-overall selection in the draft, and the University of Southern California product is expected to make an immediate impact with the Bighorns. Farmer spent parts of the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons in the NBA, with the Seattle SuperSonics and San Antonio Spurs, respectively. He averaged 16.4 points per game with the NBA D-League’s Tulsa 66ers in the 2005-06 season. Farmer later played with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League in the 2007-08 campaign, averaging 24.7 points per game.

In the second round, the Bighorns picked-up Haminn Quaintance, a 6-7 forward out of Kent State. Quaintance spent last season in the Israel-Premier League after a celebrated career in the Mid-American Conference.

In the third, Reno selected Chris Lowe, a six-foot guard out of the University of Massachusetts. Lowe averaged 12.4 points and 6.4 assists per game as a senior last season for the Minutemen. He left as UMass' all-time assist leader.

Reno’s remaining selections included Louis Graham, a 6-8 forward out of Georgia Southern (fourth round); Terry Martin, a 6-5 guard out of LSU (fifth round); Jermaine Johnson, a 6-7 forward out of Charleston (sixth round); Chris Davis, a 6-3 guard out of Southern (seventh round); and Ronald Allen, a 6-10 forward out of Cincinnati.

Albuquerque selected Carlos Powell, a 6-7 forward out of South Carolina with the first-overall pick in the draft.

Other invitees to camp include former University of Nevada star Mo Charlo and UNLV standout James Peters, as well as four players from last year’s Bighorns squad, namely Russell Robinson, Rod Benson, Daryl “Majic” Dorsey and Dave Noel.

The Bighorns begin their 2009-10 campaign on Nov. 28 at Idaho. The home slate begins on Dec. 5 with a 7 p.m. matchup against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Get your season tickets now by calling (775) 284-2622 or visiting www.RenoBighorns.com.
