Played final season collegiate career at San Diego State, after playing his first three seasons at Michigan. Sat out the 2000-01 season under NCAA transfer rules. Was reunited with head coach Steve Fisher at San Diego State, who originally recruited him to play at Michigan. Was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams, as a senior at San Diego State and as a freshman at Michigan. Was also a member of an NIT team at Michigan his junior year. Scored 604 total points in his collegiate career.
As a senior, averaged 3.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 14.2 minutes. Played in 31 of 33 games, missing the first two contests due to knee surgery. Started 14 games, 12 of them from Dec. 8 to Jan. 26. In addition to playing at his natural shooting guard and small forward positions, saw a good amount of time at point guard, a position he had not played before in his career. Scored season-high of 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting and dished out six assists against Duke on Dec. 29. Led the team in field goal percentage at .582, and shot 38-for-57 inside the three-point line (.667).
As a junior at Michigan, averaged 7.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in 25.6 minutes. Started 10 of the 19 games he appeared in, missing the first half of the season due to a knee injury. Made season debut against Colorado State on Jan. 2, scoring six points. Set season scoring high against Penn State with 16 points. Career rebounding high of 11 was set at Minnesota. Also had nine rebounds at Iowa. Was the team’s fourth leading scorer during conference play.
As a sophomore, averaged a career-high 8.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 28.8 minutes. Also recorded 30 blocked shots and 38 steals. Started 29 of 30 games played. Recorded first career double-double against Purdue with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dished out seven assists in an upset win over Indiana. Toured Europe in the summer with a Big Ten all-star squad.
As a freshman, came off the bench in all 31 games, averaging 9.0 minutes a contest. Averaged 3.2 points and 1.3 rebounds for a 25-9 Wolverines team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round. Scored season-high 14 points against Chattanooga on Dec. 20.
