Full Name: Robert Smith Position: Guard Height/Weight: 6-3 / 190 Birthdate: December 7, 1978 High School: East Chicago Central HS (East Chicago, IN) and Maine Central Institute College: Robert Morris (IL) An early entry candidate for the 2002 NBA Draft. Played final season of collegiate career at NAIA Division II member Robert Morris College in Chicago, IL, after playing his first two years at Villanova. Sat out the 2000-01 season at Southeast Missouri State as a transfer student, but left after the season and returned home to Chicago. As a junior, averaged 27.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.6 steals. Led NAIA Division II in scoring. Almost single-handedly Robert Morris to the NAIA Division II title, scoring 37 points (shooting a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line) and grabbing 11 rebounds in the tournament finals against Evangel (MO). Led team to a 34-6 overall record. Opened the NAIA Tournament with a 21 point performance against Menlo College on Mar. 7. Scored 22 points against Bethel (IN) in the second round of the NAIA Tournament on Mar. 12. Tallied 38 points and set a tournament record of 20 free throws made in a third round tournament win over Warner Southern. Scored another 38 points against Cornerstone (MI) in the tourney semi-finals. Led the championships in scoring with 156 total points (setting a new NAIA tournament record) and made the All-Tournament Team. Had five double-doubles on the season, including a 37 point, 12 rebound game against Cardinal Stritch on Feb. 23 and a 27 point, 10 assist effort at Calumet College St. Joseph’s on Jan. 30. Named NAIA Division II Player of the Year. As a sophomore at Villanova, averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Started 17 of 18 games at point guard before being suspended from the team. Scored season-high 13 points while grabbing nine rebounds against Penn State on Dec. 11. Registered 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists at Providence on Jan. 20. Dished out season-high 10 assists against Georgia on Jan. 30. Scored two points and distributed three assists against Connecticut on Feb. 2 before leaving the team. As a freshman, averaged 2.5 points and 1.1 rebounds in 13.5 minutes a game. Came off the bench in all 32 contests. Scored Villanova career-high 14 points while dishing out five assists against Nebraska on Nov. 19. Scored nine points and distributed five assists in collegiate debut against George Mason on Nov. 16. Scored 12 points in 12 minutes against Miami (FL) on Feb. 16. Grabbed season-high five rebounds against Alaska-Fairbanks on Nov. 21.
