The 23 Blocks of Christmas: Fab Melo's Record-Setting, Two-Game Swatfest
Every single one of Fab Melo's 23 blocks over his past two games.
Heading into Saturday's game between his Maine Red Claws and the Erie BayHawks, Fab Melo had notched 16 blocks in eight games. Fine enough to put him among the top-25 players in the NBA D-League in blocks per game, but a little shy of what might have been expected of a 7-foot, first-round NBA Draft Pick with elastic legs and arms longer than an early-morning lecture.
Then he erupted.
In what could end up as his coming-out party as a professional basketball player, Melo just blocked 23 shots over a two-game stretch on both sides Christmas -- including an NBA Development League record 14 against the BayHawks on Saturday, as part of a triple-double. On Monday, he then came out with a 32-point, nine-rebound, nine-block night, as a player who'd struggled for a month to keep pace with the speed of pro hoops turned himself, without warning, into the central force on the floor.
And these are all 23, using the DVR tools that the YouTube partnership gives NBA D-League games -- namely, the ability to link directly to any second of any live or archived game. It's very sweet.

(The next two have some technical difficulties. Much like the Stampede's offense on Monday.)
