Texas Legends Announce Groundbreaking Partnership with State of Veracruz, Mexico

Historic Veracruz Becomes First Non-Team City To Have Name Prominently Featured on a Professional Sports Team Jersey

FRISCO, TX , December 13, 2012 – The NBA Development League’s Texas Legends and the state of Veracruz, Mexico, today announced a historic marketing partnership that will be highlighted by “Veracruz Incomparable” being prominently featured on the front of the Legends jersey beginning on Saturday, December 15, with their home game against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

The new multi-year agreement makes the historic state of Veracruz the first non-team city to have its name and slogan prominently featured on the jersey of a professional sports team.

The Veracruz logo will make its debut on the Legends' jerseys on Dec. 15.
As presenting partner of the Legends, the team’s home arena will now be called the “Veracruz Court at Dr Pepper Arena” with the Veracruz logo displayed on center court. Additionally, Veracruz will receive significant in-arena signage and television exposure throughout the Legends’ market through the team’s family of local television networks.

“It's truly an honor to partner with a historic and dynamic city like Veracruz,” said Texas co-owner Donnie Nelson. “This destination has it all, and we are excited to further showcase this city to Texas and across the United States, while extending the Legends brand to fans in Mexico.”

Designed to promote tourism and commerce for the cities of Veracruz and Frisco, and to create greater exposure for the Legends and the NBA D-League outside of the U.S., this partnership signifies another first for the NBA’s official minor league. Recently, it was announced that the NBA D-League would have more than 350 games streamed live on YouTube during the 2012-13 regular season on NBADLeague.com and the NBA D-League YouTube channel, the most live games on YouTube by a major professional sports league, creating greater exposure for the league and its teams internationally, including throughout Mexico.

“With the campaign ‘Incomparable Veracruz’, the Department of Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography of Veracruz aims to increase the number of tourists to our destination resorts,” commented Secretary of Tourism Harry Grappa. “Dallas has direct international flights to Veracruz, which makes this a natural partnership. Additionally, this partnership is a first of its kind in Texas, where we believe there is a significant potential for tourism to Veracruz. We look forward to Texans considering Veracruz as a primary travel option on future vacations.”

Through this partnership, Veracruz presents its wide range of cultural attractions, historical, archaeological, and natural products. Highlighting sites like El Puerto de Veracruz and its folklore and history; Tajin Archaeological Zone with its great cultural heritage and traditions; and Tlacotalpan, considered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Furthermore, Veracruz offers nature and adventure activities such as rafting, canyoneering, and diving in the third largest reef area in the world.

“Veracruz has long been the gateway to Mexico, and it’s no surprise the city is on the cutting edge of building a Mexican-American bridge of commerce and tourism,” said Legends head coach Eduardo Najera. “I’m proud to bring the Legends and Veracruz families together in this historic partnership.”

The official unveiling of “Veracruz Court at Dr Pepper Arena” and the Legends home jerseys featuring the Veracruz logo, will debut on Saturday, December 15 at 7 pm CT when the Legends take on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
