The NBA Summer League 2013 in Las Vegas will feature 22 teams competing in a 61-game schedule from July 12-22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. One of those teams will be the NBA D-League Select Team. Find out more about the team below.
The Select Team is a collection of a dozen of the Top Prospects who played in the NBA Development League in 2012-13. This season, there is a representative from 10 NBA D-League clubs on the roster.
A Prospect is a player who isnít currently under an NBA contract. These players, therefore, can be signed by any NBA team, which is why this Summer League opportunity -- featuring 21 NBA teams competing -- serves as an audition for the players on the Select Team in front of many NBA scouts and GMs.
Chris Johnson, a member of the 2013 Select Team, actually received a Call-Up with Memphis this past season and played in seven games with the Grizzlies before returning to his NBA D-League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, and helping them win a NBA D-League title.
Nope! This will be the Select Team's fourth NBA Summer League, after debuting in 2009. In addition to providing a showcase for some of the NBA D-League's best players, NBA Summer League presents a rare opportunity for the NBA D-League and NBA to simultaneously share a court.
Reasonably well, all things considered. The Select Team is 6-9 all-time in its previous three Summer League stints. Last year, the Select Team went 2-3 and earned wins over Phoenix and Washington. Select actually had a winning record (3-2) in 2009.
The NBA D-League Select Team will play at least five games while in Las Vegas. The three games that are currently scheduled are below.
|NBA D-League Select Schedule|
All times ET
|July 13||Minnesota||6:30pm||Thomas and Mack|
|July 14||L.A. Clippers||4:30pm||Thomas and Mack|

Then, for the first year ever, NBA Summer League will enter a tournament style of play where the NBA D-League Select Team can fight for a Summer League title. Read more about the new format here.
The Select Team is in good hands with Alex Jensen, the 2013 NBA D-League Coach of the Year, at the helm. Jensen led Canton to its second consecutive NBA D-League postseason appearance last season. Joining him on the bench for the summer is Casey Hill, a Santa Cruz assistant coach, and Joel Abelson, who was the head coach of the Sioux Falls Skyforce last season.
The 12-player roster features four players with NBA experience, two that were drafted by NBA teams and one with an NBA player for a brother. Click on this image to learn more about the players.
