Fab Melo, Daniel Orton Moved in Four-Team Trade

A four-team trade between Erie, Maine, Texas and Tulsa was completed on Wednesday.

The trade will result in the following: Tulsa will send Daniel Orton to Maine in exchange for Mustafa Shakur from Erie. Erie will send Shakur to Tulsa and receive Sean Singletary from Texas. The Legends will trade Tyler Brown to Maine and Singletary to Erie in exchange for Fab Melo from Maine. Maine will trade Melo to Texas and receive Orton from Tulsa and Brown from Texas. The transaction is contingent on all players involved passing physicals.

The principals in the trade are Melo and Orton.

Melo (7-0, 255, Syracuse) was selected in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. He played in six games with the Celtics shooting 50% average. In 33 games with the Celtics’ affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, Melo averaged 9.8 points, 6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks. As a sophomore at Syracuse, Melo averaged 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game and was name All-ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Melo is expected to join the team this weekend as they host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Friday at 7pm and the Santa Cruz Warriors Saturday at 7pm.

Orton (6-10, 255) was the 29th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic. In 51 career NBA games (Orlando, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia) over three seasons, Orton holds career averages of 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per game. Most recently, the Kentucky product appeared in 22 games (four starts) earlier this season with the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 3.0 points and 2.8 rebounds. Orton has also appeared in 31 career D-League games over two seasons (Two assignment games with New Mexico in 2010-11 while a member of the Orlando Magic and 29 assignment games with Tulsa in 2012-13 while a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder) with averages of 12.4 points and 7.4 rebounds.
