NEW YORK, March 27, 2012 – The Houston Rockets today signed forward Malcolm Thomas for the record 44th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2011-12 NBA Development League season. Thomas joins more than 100 NBA players with NBA D-League experience currently on 2011-12 rosters.
Thomas returns to the NBA following a three-game stint with the San Antonio Spurs in January, when he scored one point and grabbed three rebounds in 15 minutes.
In 19 games (13 starts) with the D-Fenders this season, Thomas (6-9, 225, San Diego State) averaged 13.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 32.3 minutes. During his time with the Spurs, Thomas was assigned to the Austin Toros for four games, averaging 9.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 28.0 minutes.
A two-time All-Mountain West Conference Second Team selection, Thomas was named to the All-Mountain West Defensive Team during his senior season at San Diego State after finishing second in the conference in rebounding and blocks. He finished his career as the school’s second-leading all-time shot blocker.
Thomas is expected to join the Rockets today and will be available when the team travels to play the Dallas Mavericks tonight.
