Lakers To Own D-League Team
EL SEGUNDO – The National Basketball Association’s Board of Governors has voted to approve the Los Angeles Lakers as owners of a new team in the NBA Development League, it was announced today by Jeanie Buss, the Lakers’ Executive Vice President of Business Operations.
The still-unnamed team will begin play in November for the 2006-07 season.
“The D-League has done an excellent job in playing a role in helping to expand the reach of professional basketball and will continue to help improve the quality of play in the NBA,” said Buss. “We’re happy to have a team of our own and look forward to helping the league continue to grow.”
More information on the team’s management, coaching staff and site of the team’s games will be released at a future date.
