NEW YORK, Mar. 17, 2011 – The Washington Wizards signed guard Othyus Jeffers of the Iowa Energy for the 17th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2010-11 NBA Development League season. Jeffers’ call-up, his second this season and third overall, increases the number of current NBA players with NBA D-League experience, including players currently on assignment to their NBA D-League affiliates, to 90.

Jeffers earned his first GATORADE Call-Up this season from the San Antonio Spurs on March 4. He appeared in one game with the Spurs, logging two points and two rebounds against the Miami Heat that night. The 2009 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year, Jeffers earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Utah Jazz last season. He played 14 regular season games with Utah, averaging 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.1 minutes. He also appeared in six playoff games with the Jazz.

A Chicago native, Jeffers played two collegiate seasons at Illinois-Chicago, where he was an All-Horizon League First-Team player in 2007. He transferred to Robert Morris (Ill.) for his senior season, averaging 24.0 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 33 games. He earned numerous NAIA All-American First Team selections in 2008, and was named the NAIA Player of the Year by Sporting News and Basketball Times.

Jeffers is expected to join the Wizards today, and should be available when they play at Toronto on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET.
