NEW YORK, Nov. 20, 2009 – The Golden State Warriors today signed Chris Hunter of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants making, him the first GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League Season. Hunter joins 61 other NBA players with NBA D-League experience.
The GATORADE Call-Up marks the second of Hunter’s career, as he was signed by the New York Knicks on April 14, 2009. Hunter appeared in two preseason games for the Knicks prior to the start of the 2009-10 season, scoring four points in nine minutes before being waived on Oct. 22 and signing with the NBA D-League.
A 2009 NBA D-League All-Star, the 6-11 Hunter appeared in 47 games, all starts, for the Mad Ants last season, averaging 19.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 32.8 minutes. He scored in double figures on 44 occasions, including twice scoring a season-high 34 points (Feb. 19, in a 99-90 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce and April 5, in a 105-86 win over the Tulsa 66ers). For his efforts last season, Hunter was named to the All-NBA D-League Second Team.
A four-year contributor at Michigan, Hunter averaged 8.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 30 games during his senior season.
Hunter is expected to join Golden State today and be available tonight when the team hosts the Portland Trail Blazers at Oracle Arena.
