Cleveland Cavaliers Assign Josh Shelby to NBA D-League Affiliate Canton Charge

Shelby appeared in two games on assignment this season with Reno and averaged 22.0 points.

NEW YORK, Jan. 24, 2013 – The Cleveland Cavaliers today assigned second-year guard Josh Selby to the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers’ NBA Development League affiliate. The assignment is the 116th of the 2012-13 NBA and NBA D-League seasons, while Selby is one of a record 50 NBA players to have been assigned to the NBA D-League this season.

Selby (6-2, 183, Kansas) was traded to Cleveland on Tuesday from the Memphis Grizzlies, along with Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington, and a future first round pick in exchange for Jon Leuer. He returns to the NBA D-League following a previous assignment to the Reno Bighorns from the Grizzlies

He appeared in two games on assignment this season with Reno and averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 34.0 minutes.

Originally selected by the Grizzlies in the second round (49th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft, Selby appeared in 38 career games for Memphis, averaging 2.2 points, 0.9 assists and 7.8 minutes. He has yet to make an appearance for Cleveland.

Selby is expected to join the Charge today and be available on Friday, Jan. 25 when the team travels to face the Iowa Energy at 8 p.m. ET.
