Fifty-Nine Players with NBA D-League Experience Highlight 2013 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League Rosters
The Indiana Pacers summer league roster features 10 players with NBA D-League experience, the most of any team playing in Orlando, while the Brooklyn Nets, Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz each have eight former NBA D-Leaguers on their summer league squads. Each of the remaining six teams playing in Orlando has at least one player with NBA D-League experience.
Tony Mitchell, the NBA D-League’s 2013 Rookie of the Year, will play for the Boston Celtics in Orlando and headlines the list of players with NBA D-League experience. Mitchell, who led the Fort Wayne Mad Ants to its first postseason appearance, averaged 21.9 points while shooting 42-percent from the field to go with 6.4 rebounds in 48 regular season games, 45 as a starter.
Of the 59 players with NBA D-League experience playing in Orlando this summer, 10 earned GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA last season: James Anderson (Oklahoma City), Justin Holiday (Philadelphia), Damion James (Brooklyn), Travis Leslie (Philadelphia), Jerel McNeal (Utah), Tim Ohlbrecht (Houston), Daniel Orton (Oklahoma City), Donald Sloan (Indiana), Jarvis Varnado (Miami) and Chris Wright (Brooklyn). An additional 21 players in Orlando competed in the NBA D-League on assignment from their NBA teams.
Jay Larranaga, who will serve as the head coach of the Celtics summer league team, is one of six coaches on benches in Orlando with NBA D-League coaching experience. He is joined by Jeff Capel (Philadelphia), Chris Finch (Houston), Brad Jones (Utah), Darko Rajakovic (Oklahoma City), and Roy Rogers (Brooklyn).
