GREENVILLE, S.C., September 18, 2002 – Is there untapped basketball talent waiting to be discovered? Is there a “one in a million” player with a shot at playing pro basketball out there? The National Basketball Development League is offering the opportunity to find out.
Local tryouts are being sponsored by each of the eight NBDL teams in October. With league approval, up to three players from each local tryout could be invited to take part in team training camps that get underway in each NBDL city in November.
There is a $50 registration fee, which guarantees a spot for up to 100 players on the first day of each local tryout camp. Prospective players should contact any or all of the eight NBDL teams for specific registration information.
Following are the basics of each NBDL local tryout camp. Please click on each team’s website or call the teams for more specific information about local tryout opportunities.
The NBDL, the NBA’s minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Mobile Revelers (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), Greenville Groove (S.C.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA’s umbrella. Nine NBDL players and three NBDL coaches have been called up to the NBA since the start of the league’s inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA’s 29 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
