
Quinn Buckner returned to ESPN in 1995 as an analyst for the
NBA on ESPN Radio. He also returned to the network as a college basketball analyst in 1997, and has worked as a studio analyst for ESPN and ESPN2. His primary ESPN college game assignment is
Super Tuesday Big Ten contests; he also works select games for ABC Sports.
Buckner was originally with ESPN from 1986-89 as a college basketball analyst. He then moved to CBS as a college and NBA analyst from 1989-92, and a college analyst from 1995-97. He hosted NBC’s halftime shows from 1992-93. In the past, he’s also called games for SportsChannel and Raycom.
Also sandwiched between his ESPN stints: head coach of the Dallas Mavericks during the 1993 and ’94 seasons.
A 1976 Indiana graduate with a bachelor of science degree in business, Buckner was a focal member of the Hoosiers’ 1976 NCAA Championship squad, the last Division I college team to go undefeated (31-0), and considered by many to be the greatest college team ever.
Following Indiana, he captained the 1976 USA Olympic Team to the gold medal in Montreal, then went on to enjoy a 10-year NBA career as a forward with the Milwaukee Bucks (1977-82), Boston Celtics (1983-85) and Indiana Pacers (1986). He won a world title with the Celtics in 1984, giving him NCAA, NBA and Olympic crowns as a player.
Currently, also Buckner serves as vice president of USA Basketball.
A Phoenix, Ill. native, Buckner was born on August 20, 1954 and is married with four children.
