GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 3, 2003) –
Devin Brown, the Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year in the National Basketball Development League, has become the 14th NBDL player to be called up to the NBA this season. Brown, who was set to play Game 1 of the
NBDL Finals for the Fayetteville Patriots Friday night, has signed a 10-day contract with the Denver Nuggets.
Brown, who completed a stint with the San Antonio Spurs earlier this season, was also a First Team All-NBDL selection and is the second player from the league to be called up to Denver in the last two weeks. Asheville guard Jeff Trepagnier is currently playing out a second 10-day contract with the Nuggets.

The NBDL’s 14 NBA callups are spread among 10 players in this its second season. With the 2003 NBDL Finals starting Friday in Fayetteville, the league has notched 22 callups since play began in November 2001.
Fayetteville, the top seed in the playoffs, hosts the Mobile Revelers in Game 1 of the best-of-three NBDL Finals Friday at the Crown Coliseum. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Game 2 of the finals is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9 at the Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, Ala. If a third game is necessary it will be played Friday, April 11 in Fayetteville.
Brown played in 44 games for the Patriots this season (40 starts), averaging 24.7 minutes, 16.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists. The University of Texas-San Antonio product finished the regular season as the NBDL’s third-leading scorer.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound guard played in seven games for the Spurs in November 2002, averaging 1.7 points and 1.0 rebound per game. As a senior at UTSA in 2001-02, he averaged 18.3 points and finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,922 career points.
Brown reported to the Nuggets Thursday night. His departure marks the first player transaction for the Patriots since Nov. 26, when Brown returned to Fayetteville from the Spurs.
