NEW YORK, Jan. 12, 2010 – The Atlanta Hawks today signed Mario West of the Maine Red Claws. West who is the sixth GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League Season, and the first Red Claws player to earn a Call-Up, joins 65 other NBA players with NBA D-League experience.
West has appeared in 11 games for Maine this season, six as a starter, and is averaging 13.7 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds. He has scored in double figures on eight occasions, recording a season-high 19 points twice, both victories over the Springfield Armor.
West returns to Atlanta following a two-year stint with the team (2007-09), most recently appearing in five games for the Hawks during the 2009 preseason when he scored 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. In 117 career games during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 campaigns with the Hawks he has amassed 102 points and 104 rebounds.
The 2007 State Farm College Slam Dunk Contest Winner, West was a four-year contributor at Georgia Tech, and averaged 4.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.6 steals in 32 games during his senior season, when he captained the squad. He was also a participant in the 2007 ESPN College Slam Dunk Championships.
West is expected to join the Hawks this afternoon and be available tomorrow night when the team hosts the Washington Wizards.
