RED CLAWS ANNOUNCE
2010 OPEN TRYOUT
UMass Boston to be Site of September 11-12 Tryout
PORTLAND, MAINE –
The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that
the team will hold open tryouts on September 11-12 at the University of
Massachusetts Boston. The announcement was made by Red Claws President
and General Manager Jon Jennings.
The two-day tryout format will include team drills, individual skills
work and scrimmages. Red Claws Head Coach Austin Ainge, along with the
basketball operations and support staff from the Red Claws, will be
on-hand to evaluate participants, with as many as three players
receiving an invitation to Portland for the Red Claws training camp in
November.
“We had tremendous success last year with three players from open
tryouts not only being invited to training camp but making the inaugural
Red Claws squad,” said Jennings. “We are thrilled that UMass Boston is
welcoming the Red Claws to their campus for tryouts again this season.
The facilities on the campus are first-class and offer everything we
need to hold an event of this kind.”
Just over 175 players attended Red Claws open tryout camps in Charlotte and Boston last season.
Three players from those camps, Stanley Thomas, Mike Williams and Dulla
Jalloh, received invitations to the team’s training camp and went on to
become members of the Red Claws inaugural team.
“The open tryouts are an opportunity for players to show their talents,”
said Austin Ainge, head coach of the Maine Red Claws. “We were fortunate
to find players who helped round out team in our first year, and I hope
that we have equal success as we enter our second season.”
The fee for the tryouts will be $150 in advance or $200 at the door.
Registration forms can be downloaded at

eligibility requirements as outlined on the registration form.
