INJURY BUG CONTINUES TO
PLAGUE RED CLAWS
Team Adds Matt Janning After
Jordan Eglseder Suffers a Knee Injury
PORTLAND, ME
- The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they
have waived Jordan Eglseder due to injury, less than a week after the 7-0, 280
lb. center joined the team. The team retains his rights, and he could rejoin the
team when healthy. Eglseder joined the team just last weekend, replacing center
Magnum Rolle, who was also sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury.
To
replace Eglseder on the roster, Red Claws have added Matt Janning. Janning, a
6-4, 198 lb. guard out of Northeastern, will join the team tomorrow in
Springfield. Undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft, Janning was signed in August by
the Phoenix Suns after averaging 12.6 points and 5.8 rebounds for them in the
Vegas Summer League. He also played for current Red Claws Head Coach Austin
Ainge as part of the Boston Celtics summer league squad in Orlando.
“I have
never seen anything like this,” said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon
Jennings of the team’s spate of injuries. “Before our season had even begun, we
lost Stephane Lasme to a lengthy injury, followed quickly by injuries to Mario
West, Lamonte Ulmer, Magnum Rolle and now Jordan Eglseder. I am incredibly
impressed by the perseverance our team has shown. They have really pulled
together and played well.”
“We are
very fortunate that a player of the caliber of Matt Janning was available,”
Jennings said of the team’s newest member. “He is athletic and has a tremendous
feel for the game. He will be a good addition to the team.”
The Red
Claws are in Springfield Thursday to take on the Springfield Armor at 7 PM for
their third straight matchup at the MassMutual Center. The East Conference
rivals split two games last weekend in Springfield. The Red Claws will return
home on Friday, December 3 to face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at 7 PM and the Armor
on Sunday, December 5 at 5 PM. Great seats remain for both games.
