7-0 Center Played Most Recently for Washington Wizards

PORTLAND, ME (February 27, 2012) - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they have acquired Hamady Ndiaye (pronounced AH-muhdee EN-jigh) from the Available Player Pool. A 2010 Draft selection of the Minnesota Timberwolves, the 7-0, 236 lb. center joins the Red Claws after having spent the past two seasons in the Washington Wizards organization.

Ndiaye, who had never played basketball until high school, set school records at Rutgers University for blocks in a season (145) and career (358) before being named the All Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. The Senegal native was drafted 56th overall by the Minnesota Timberwoves in 2010 before his rights were traded to the Washington Wizards. Ndiaye split the 2010-11 season between the Wizards and the Dakota Wizards, appearing 16 NBA games and 11 in the NBA Development League that season. This season, he has split the season between Washington and the Iowa Energy, appearing in 3 NBA games and 10 in the D-League.

“Hamady Ndiaye is a 7-footer who can block shots and will help with our interior defense,” said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. “Hamady is high on the radar screen for several NBA teams, and we are thrilled to be able to add him to the Red Claws roster.”

The Red Claws will return to action this Friday when they host the Springfield Armor in the first of a two-game weekend series. The 7 PM contest will be the 3rd Annual Irish Heritage Night with the Red Claws, featuring a parade of Irish flags and traditional Irish step dancing. The two longtime rivals will close out the two-game set on Sunday at 5 PM.
