Maine Red Claws Name Ronald Nored Assistant Coach
PORTLAND, Maine - September 27, 2013 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, announced that Ronald Nored has been named an assistant coach with the team. Nored will join second year Head Coach Mike Taylor and second year Assistant Coach Tunde Adekola.
Nored was a four year letter-winner on the men's basketball team at Butler University (Indianapolis, Ind.), where he played under first-year Celtics Head Coach Brad Stevens. During his distinguished playing career, Nored set a Butler record with 143 games played - appearing in a school-record 16 postseason games - and led the Bulldogs to three Horizon League regular season championships, two league tournament titles and four consecutive trips to postseason tournament play, including back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship national title game.
"Having Ronald on the coaching staff in Maine will be a tremendous asset to our club," said Red Claws Head Coach Mike Taylor. "His experience playing under Coach Stevens in college will be invaluable during our transition to a new philosophy this year."
After graduating from Butler in 2012 with a degree in early childhood/middle childhood education, Nored was named the head coach of the boy's basketball team at Brownsburg (Ind.) High School. After one season, the Homewood, Ala. native returned to his home state to become assistant coach of the University of South Alabama's men's basketball team. Several months into his tenure, however, Nored received an offer from Coach Stevens that he simply could not refuse.
Nored will assist Coach Taylor and Assistant Coach Adekola in upcoming tryouts and will help the basketball operations department prepare for the upcoming 2013 NBA D-League Draft, scheduled for Nov. 1.
