RED CLAWS ARE A-MAZE-ING
IN DAYTON CORNFIELD
Red Claws to Hold Special Event Sept. 24 at 6-Acre Labyrinth
PORTLAND, MAINE (September 20, 2011 – After packing the house for two straight seasons at the Portland Expo, Crustacean Nation has always thought that their hometown team was great. This autumn, they will have the chance to experience just how a-MAZE-ing they really are.
Pumpkin Valley Farm in Dayton, Maine has been creating a six-acre labyrinth of corn for 10 years. Working with the MAiZE Company, the world's largest cornfield maze consulting/design company, Pumpkin Valley Farm produces an intricate design each year. Past maze designs have included a Maine moose, American flag, and the mascot of the Portland Sea Dogs. This year’s design of the Maine Red Claws court and logo is sure to be the most ‘cornfusing’ labyrinth yet.
“In sports, you get used to seeing your players and logo on things like trading cards, posters, bumper stickers, and it’s always a cool thing to see,” said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. “This is a whole new level of cool though – who would’ve ever thought you would see kids running through an image of Crusher covering a six acre stretch?”
The Red Claws will hold a special event at Pumpkin Valley Farm this Saturday, September 24, from 11 AM – 3 PM in celebration of the maze. Red Claws mascot Crusher will be on hand, along with the entire Red Claws staff, handing out balloons and stickers and participating in children activities. The team will also provide a Maze Passport to Red Claws fans; fans who can answer the ten Red Claws and basketball related questions will be provided with directions to help get them through the maze – get them wrong and they may be misdirected.
Pumpkin Valley Farm is located at 100 Union Falls Road in Dayton, Maine approximately 40 minutes south of Portland. The corn maze will be open every Saturday and Sunday 10 AM - 6 PM through the end of October. Admission is $8.00 per person with children 2 years old and under admitted free of charge. In addition to the maze, Pumpkin Valley Farm features activities and attractions including a cow train, corn cannons, corn boxes, a giant jumping pillow, and plenty of pumpkins to pick, as well as plenty of farm animals to keep families entertained and smiling for hours.
