Team Joins Forces with Good Shepherd Food Bank to Help Mainers in Need

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, in association with the Good Shepherd Food Bank, are proud to announce the Red Claws will host a food drive on Sunday, March 14, as the Red Claws take on the Iowa Energy at 5:00 PM. The announcement was made by Maine Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings.

Fans attending the Sunday, March 14 game are encouraged to bring canned goods or other nonperishable food items to the game. Monetary gifts will also be accepted. All fans making a donation will be entered to win team-signed items.

“With something as simple as a can of food, we have the ability to make a family in need’s day a little easier,” said Jennings. “The Good Shepherd Food Bank has been helping Mainers in need for nearly thirty years, and we are proud to join them in their efforts.”

GOOD SHEPHERD FOOD BANK: Now in its 28th year of operation, Good Shepherd Food Bank provides millions of pounds of food to every county in Maine through more than 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other assistance programs. With today’s economic times, the food bank has seen a drastic increase in the number of people seeking assistance. The hungry today are likely to be hard working families, single parents with children, and seniors on fixed incomes. Many are new to food pantries or social agencies; they never expected to face the difficult choices of either paying for housing or medicine or buying food to eat. There are thousands of people in Maine who work hard but are still living at the poverty level and depend on emergency food supplies to survive. Others face medical or other crisis and have suddenly been thrown into poverty. They simply need good neighbors to help get them through these hard times.
