PORTLAND, ME (October 28, 2011)- The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they will host a fan celebration for the 2011 NBA Development League Draft at Bruno's Restaurant located at 33 Allen Avenue in Portland from 6:30 PM – 9 PM on Thursday, November 3. The 2011 NBA D-League Draft will begin at 7 PM, and the Draft Party will feature specials on Red Claws Ale and food as well as trivia games and prizes. Fans will also be able to purchase Red Claws tickets and merchandise during the event. In addition, Red Claws season ticket holders will be able to pick up their 2011-12 tickets.
The NBA Development League Draft offers teams the opportunity to build their rosters from the pool of promising players. Each of the NBA D-League's 16 teams will be given one pick in each of the eight rounds. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected. The NBA D-League Draft utilizes a "serpentine" format, meaning the order will be reversed in each of the eight rounds. For example, the team picking last in the first round will select first in the second round, giving them the 16th and 17th overall choices.
The Red Claws were awarded the third overall pick in the draft. In addition to the 3rd overall pick, Maine will also select 24th, 29th, 34th, 61st, 66th, 93rd, 98th and 125th overall in the draft. The Red Claws picked up an additional selection (24th) in the second round of the draft, receiving Bakersfield's second round pick in a trade last season that sent Tiny Gallon to the Jam.
