2009 NBA D-LEAGUE DRAFT
PARTY
SET FOR NOVEMBER 5
Fans Invited to Bingas Stadium to View NBA TV Telecast
PORTLAND, ME
-- The Maine Red Claws, presented by
Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they will host a viewing party for the
2009 NBA D-League Draft at Bingas Stadium Smokehouse and Sports Bar located at
77 Free Street in Portland. The 2009 NBA D-League Draft will take place
Thursday, November 5 beginning at 7 PM.
The NBA D-League Draft will feature more than 140 prospects, many of whom will
have recently competed in NBA training camps and summer leagues. The live
selection show highlights the 9th annual draft which offers NBA
D-League teams the opportunity to build their rosters from the pool of promising
players. Forty players previously selected in NBA D-League Drafts have earned
Gatorade Call-Ups to the NBA, including Portland’s Ime Udoka, Golden State’s
Mikki Moore and Houston’s Chuck Hayes. The draft will be televised on NBA TV and
streamed live online on NBA.com beginning at 7 PM.
“With each day that passes, we are one step closer to stepping on the court for
the first time,” said Maine Red Claws President and General Manager Jon
Jennings. “We are today just 37 days from the start of training camp and 58 days
from our home opener at the Expo. The draft on November 5 will be the next big
piece to the puzzle as we start to really put together who will be the first to
pull on the Red Claws jersey as part of our inaugural team.”
Each of the NBA D-League’s 16 teams will be given one pick in each of the eight
rounds. No trades will be permitted
during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard
Player Contract are eligible to be selected. The NBA D-League Draft utilizes a
“serpentine” format, meaning the order will be reversed in each of the eight
rounds. For example, the team picking last in the first round will select first
in the second round, giving them the 16th and 17th overall choices.
The Red Claws were awarded the eighth pick in the 2009 NBA D-League Draft. Up to
17 players from the NBA D-League Expansion Draft, local tryouts, allocation
picks and the draft will be invited to training camp in November.
