12 Former Red Claws on 2013 NBA Training Camp Rosters

PORTLAND, Maine - October 04, 2013 - As NBA training camps open this week in preparation for the 2013-14 season, 12 former members of the Maine Red Claws are participating in teams' camps as of Monday, September 30. This is the largest number of former players to be participating in NBA training camps in the five-year history of the franchise.

Of the 12 players, six players were members of the Red Claws during the 2012-13 season, the first year of the team's hybrid affiliation with the Boston Celtics. These players include 2013 NBA D-League All-Stars Shelvin Mack (Atlanta) and Chris Wright (Toronto), former Celtics Fab Melo (Dallas) and Kris Joseph (Orlando), Xavier Silas (Washington) and Jermaine Taylor (Cleveland).

Mack, who is participating in Atlanta's training camp, is back with the team after joining the Hawks late last season. The Butler product received a GATORADE call-up from the Hawks on March 6 and remained with the organization through the end of the team's post-season run in May. Prior to Atlanta, Mack received two other call-ups during the 2012-13 season with the Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers. Mack earned NBA Development League Performer of the Week honors for the week of December 3, 2012.

Other notable Red Claw alumni include two who are participating in Celtics training camp - point guard Avery Bradley and 2011 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year DeShawn Sims. Bradley, who was assigned to the Red Claws from Boston during the 2010-11 season, appeared in nine games for Maine, averaging 17.1 points in the D-League. Since his time in Maine, Bradley has found a home in the Celtics rotation, holding a career average of 9.2 ppg while starting 78 games over three seasons. Sims, who joined the team during the early stages of the 2010-11 season, went on to average 20.3 ppg (1st among rookies, 4th in the league) and 7.7 rpg (11th overall in the league), and earned the distinctions of All-NBA Development League Third Team and All-NBA Development League Rookie First Team to go along with his Rookie of the Year award. Sims also spent time with the Red Claws during 2011-12 season and holds career averages of 19.2 ppg and 7.6 rpg while appearing in 53 games with the team.

Other players in NBA training camps include Justin Brownlee (2011-12) with the New York Knicks, Lester Hudson (2010-11) with the Utah Jazz, Marcus Landry (2009-10) with the Los Angeles Lakers and Hamady Ndiaye (2011-12) with the Sacramento Kings.
