BOBCATS TO HOST D-LEAGUE AFFILIATE TRYOUTS
AT TIME WARNER CABLE ARENA

Up To Three Players Invited To Maine Red Claws November Training Camp

Charlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins and Maine Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings announced today that the Bobcats will host an open tryout for their NBA Development League affiliate, the Red Claws, on September 12-13 at Time Warner Cable Arena.

The two-day tryout format will include team drills, individual skills work and scrimmages. Bobcats assistant coaches and the entire Red Claws basketball operations and support staff will be on-hand to evaluate participants, with as many as three players receiving an invitation to Portland, Maine, for the Red Claws training camp in November.

“Having utilized the NBA Development League over the past several seasons both in terms of sending our own players down and signing other players, we understand the importance of the league,” Higgins said. “This tryout is a unique opportunity for local talent to showcase their skills in front of Red Claws and Bobcats personnel.”

Tryouts will be limited to the first 125 applicants who register at www.nba.com/bobcats/090722_redclaws_release.html or www.nba.com/dleague/maine/Tryout_Charlotte.html and submit their registration fee of $195.  Participants must meet D-League player eligibility requirements as outlined on the registration form.

“This is a unique opportunity that most players and D-League teams will never have, and we are honored that the Bobcats thought so highly of our partnership that they gave us this opportunity,” Jennings said.  “We are thrilled to partner with the Bobcats organization and look forward to joining them in Charlotte in September as we evaluate what we expect will be a high level of talent.”

Jennings added, “You never know where or when you are going to find that undiscovered talent or diamond in the rough. Perhaps through this tryout we will discover a player who will go on to be a big part of the Red Claws.”

The Bobcats this season will join the Boston Celtics as NBA affiliates for the Red Claws. The Bobcats were previously affiliated with the Sioux Falls Skyforce (2007-09), Ft. Worth Flyers (2006-07) and Fayetteville Patriots (2005-06). The NBA affiliation system allows teams to assign players in their first and second year to their D-League affiliate.

Bobcats Sports & Entertainment is the parent company of the Charlotte Bobcats and operates Time Warner Cable Arena, which opened in the fall of 2005.
