RED CLAWS WIN LEAGUE BUSINESS AWARDS
Red Claws Summer Clinic Series Sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts Takes Top Honors
PORTLAND, ME (June 1, 2012) – The Maine Red Claws continue to set the bar high on the business side of the organization, receiving five NBA Development League business awards for the 2011-12 season. The Red Claws received recognition in all five categories in which they were eligible. The team also received top honors for Best Sponsorship Activation for their annual Red Claws Summer Clinic Series Sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts and led the league in community appearances, with the team’s mascot, players, dancers and coaching staff completing 234 appearances in 2011-12.
The NBA Development League recognizes teams in six categories: Full Season Tickets, Sponsorship Revenue, Sponsorship Accounts, Season Ticket Renewal Rate, Community Appearances and Group Tickets Per Game. With a total seating capacity of 3,045 at the Portland Expo Building, the team does not have the group seating capacity to be considered for the Group Tickets Per Game award, which requires a minimum of 1,000 tickets available. The team far exceeded the standards established by the league in the remaining five categories including tripling the league expectation in community appearances.
“We work incredibly hard to make sure that the Maine Red Claws set the bar high,” said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. “The league awards are a testament to the hard work our front office staff puts in, not just during the season but all year round.”
Red Claws Summer Clinic Series Sponsored by Dunkin’ Receives Best Sponsorship Activation Award: The Red Claws popular Red Claws Summer Clinic Series Sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts will return for its third season this summer, with 13 clinics across the state of Maine to be announced later this month. The barnstorming caravan series was introduced in 2010 as a way to bring the Red Claws to young fans across the state. The Red Claws Summer Clinic Series Sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts features free 90-minute clinics that teach fundamentals of basketball to kids of all ages, and the clinics are hosted by Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants across Maine. The team has travelled from as far south as Kittery, Maine to as far north as Presque Isle. The clinics are conducted by Red Claws’ basketball operations personnel with assistance from the team’s mascot, Crusher, and last season received special assistance from Red Claws’ players Kenny Hayes and DeShawn Sims.
“When we started the Red Claws Summer Clinic Series Sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts, we envisioned it as an old-fashioned, barnstorming event that used to be commonplace among teams years ago,” said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. “The Red Claws proudly wear ‘Maine’ across the front of our jerseys, and as Maine’s team, we thought this was a great opportunity to visit fans across the state, many of whom may have only had the opportunity to see us on television. Young basketball players have the opportunity to learn skills, and we have the opportunity to meet the fans who have supported us throughout our three seasons. It’s a wonderful program and a great collaboration with Dunkin’ Donuts.”
