Dayton Forward Taken with Third Overall Pick

PORTLAND, ME (November 3, 2011)- The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, selected Dayton forward Chris Wright in the first round of the 2011 NBA Development League Draft tonight. The Red Claws selected 6-8, 225 lb. forward with the 3rd overall selection.

Wright, the first cousin of current Red Claws guard Kenny Hayes, led Dayton in scoring as a senior, averaging 13.2 ppg and scoring in double digits in 26 of 36 games including six games with 20+ points. A member of the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman, he was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 as a sophomore and Third Team All-Atlantic 10 as a senior.

“We were so incredibly fortunate to be able to draft Chris Wright,” said Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. “He will bring energy and passion to the Red Claws, and I think all Crustacean Nation will love to watch him play.”

RED CLAWS PICK UP MICHIGAN STATE’S SUMMERS IN SECOND ROUND: The Red Claws selected 6-4, 205 lb. Michigan State guard Durrell Summers with the team’s first second round selection. A four-year standout at Michigan State who helped the Spartans to the national title game vs. North Carolina as a sophomore, Summers was projected by the Red Claws to be a first round pick.

“We were ecstatic to get a guy of his quality in the second round,” said Red Claws Head Coach Dave Leitao. “He comes from one of the most successful college programs in the country. I think he’ll bring a tremendous amount to our team.”

The Red Claws are expected to announce their 2011 training camp roster tomorrow.
