D-Fenders assistant coach Chucky Brown takes your questions
Timeout With C.B.: Jan. 30, 2007

The D-Fenders have been very successful on the road so far this season. Do you enjoy coaching on the road?

"I love playing on the road. There is less pressure when you are away. You know that everyone in the stands is against you and they expect you to lose. It is hard to win on the road, but some teams love to play on the road. If you can get the opposing team's fans to leave early, then it is a real accomplishment. Sometimes when you are at home you can get too comfortable and that can be a bad thing."

Which NBA arena did you look forward to playing in the most?

"I loved three arenas as a player. The Forum, Madison Square Garden and the Boston Garden were the oldest arenas, but I used to love going there. Los Angeles and New York had the celebrities. I loved messing around with Spike Lee in New York. The Forum and Madison Square Garden had the best atmospheres, but the Boston Garden had the best rims. They were real soft and easy to shoot at."

How has the transition been from player to coach?

"It hasn't been too hard. I can now see the other side of the business. You now see scouting reports and it's funny because you wonder what your scouting report looked like when you were a player and what the coaches were saying about you."

What is the best part about being a coach?

"I enjoy telling a player to do something and seeing them actually do it. It's very satisfying when you see your advice work and then the player comes to tell you that you were right. I also enjoy seeing my players grow and mature."

Who was your favorite coach to play for and what lessons did you learn from them to help you with your coaching?

"Rudy Tomjanovich and Chuck Daly were my favorite coaches to play for. They were both fair and gave me opportunities. Rudy taught me to always stay positive and find the good in bad situations. Even after a 40-point loss, Rudy taught me to stay positive. Chuck taught me to always be honest with my players even if they didn't like hearing the truth. There was no beating around the bush with Chuck. He showed me that I must be truthful and help players evolve their play on the court."
