NEW YORK, April 5, 2008 – The Los Angeles Lakers today announced they have re-assigned rookie Coby Karl to their NBA Development League affiliate Los Angeles D-Fenders. The assignment will be Karl’s third of the season. He was previously with the D-Fenders from Nov. 28-Dec. 24, 2007 and from Feb. 14 to Feb. 19. His re-assignment is the 51st time an NBA player has been sent to his D-League affiliate this season.

During his first two assignments, Karl averaged 17.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 13 games (11 starts) and has appeared in 17 games with the Lakers this season, averaging 1.8 points and 4.2 minutes following his July, 2007 signing.

The 6-5, 216-pound guard was a three-time Western Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection at Boise State, where he ranks third on the Bronco’s all-time scoring list with 1,698 points. In his senior season he averaged 14.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists, and was named a First-Team All-WAC selection. Karl, son of Denver Nuggets coach George Karl, left Boise State as the all-time leader in games played (127) and three-pointers made (266).

Karl joins a D-League Playoff bound D-Fenders team that holds a 32-14 record on the season and is tied for first place in the Western Division with the Idaho Stampede. Karl is scheduled to re-join the D-Fenders tonight when the team travels to Anaheim to play the Arsenal.
