Chucky Brown - Head Coach A New York native, Chucky Brown returns for his fourth season with the D-Fenders and brings over a decade of experience in the NBA, NBA D-League, CBA, and WBA as a player, coach and mentor. Brown spent the last three years as the D-Fenders’ assistant coach and will now serve as the franchise’s second ever head coach.
Manning the sidelines with D-Fenders Head Coach Dan Panaggio, Brown helped guide Los Angeles to their stellar 32-18 record and postseason appearance during the 2007-08 season. Along with Panaggio, fellow assistant coach Rasheed Hazzard and Honorary Coach Lenny Wilkins, Brown was selected to participate in the 2008 NBA D-League All-Star Game presented by Spalding, as assistant coach of the “Blue Team,” which victorious over the “Red Team,” 117-99.
On January 15, 2008, Brown displayed his coaching abilities when he served as D-Fenders acting head coach for an ailing Dan Panaggio during the 2008 NBA D-League Showcase presented by Adidas. He guided Los Angeles to a 4th quarter comeback, scoring 67 second half points and overcoming a 14-point deficit to beat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, 110-97. During the summer, Brown paired again with Panaggio and Hazzard as they coached the Lakers Entry in the NBA Vegas Summer League. There he gained hands-on experience with some of the Lakers and D-Fenders young hopefuls including Coby Karl and Lakers 2008 Draft Selection, Joe Crawford.
Before working with the D-Fenders, Brown served as assistant coach for the Roanoke Dazzle for two seasons. During the two campaigns, the Dazzle went 26-22 in 2004-05 and 25-23 in 2005-06.
A 13-year veteran of the hardwood, Brown played in 694 NBA games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. Sharing the record with Tony Massenburg for most NBA teams played for in a career with 12, Brown retired with 4,125 career points, averaging 5.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He also played professionally in Italy and has won one NBA Championship and CBA Championship. An All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in 1989 at North Carolina State, Brown led the Wolfpack to the 1987 ACC championship and was the leading rebounder in the conference in 1989. He graduated from North Carolina State with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
Brown, 41, and his wife Melanie are the proud parents of three daughters.

Rasheed Hazzard - Assistant Coach Rasheed Hazzard rejoins the D-Fenders staff for the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach as well as an advance scout for the Los Angeles Lakers.
After joining the D-Fenders during the 2006-07 season, in which Hazzard helped the Lakers and DFenders part time as an advance scout and assistant coach, respectively, working out Lakers players as well as Lakers/D-Fenders hopefuls; Hazzard took a more inclusive role with the team for the 2007-08 season, manning the sidelines with D-Fenders coaches Dan Panaggio and Chucky Brown.
Hazzard joined Panaggio and Brown at the 2008 NBA D-League Showcase, 2008 NBA D-League All-Star Game and Vegas Summer League, coaching the D-Fenders and Lakers.
Prior to joining the Lakers organization, Hazzard served as an assistant coach to Michael Holton at the University of Portland, where he worked on defensive strategy, strength & conditioning and player development.
Hazzard played under the tutelage of coach Mike Jarvis for four seasons at George Washington University. After graduation from GW in ’98, Hazzard played in the pro summer league with the Harlem Globetrotters as the backup to NBAer and D-League Alum, Rafer Alston. A promising career was cut short by injuries, including a right knee operation which required 3 additional operations, turned into pursuit of a coaching career.
The son of legendary UCLA great and NBA player, Walt Hazzard, Rasheed resides in the Los Angeles area.

| Nina Hsieh - Head Athletic Trainer Nina Hsieh joins the Los Angeles D-Fenders staff in her second season as Head Athletic Trainer. Her past experience working in basketball makes her a great candidate as the primary medical and rehabilitation trainer, as well as the liaison between the D-Fenders medical staff and the players.
Nina graduated in 2000 from Cal State Fullerton with a B.S. in Kinesiology and continued her education by obtaining her M.S. in Sports Health Care from the Arizona School of Health Sciences in 2003. Hsieh has spent the past four years with the Women’s Basketball Program at UC Santa Barbara, serving as the assistant athletic trainer.
Before her time with the Gauchos, she was the head athletic trainer at Phoenix College in Arizona. Hsieh currently resides in Fountain Valley.
