The Los Angeles D-Fenders recognized the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center with its Heroes Among Us for the month of March. Assistant Coach Chucky Brown presented the award to Associate Director, Clifford Sanchez during halftime of the March 25th D-Fenders game.

The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center is an after school educational program that serves the children of South Central Los Angeles by providing educational, vocational, cultural and enrichment programs. Since 1990, the Center has empowered thousands of inner-city children by providing a safe and caring learning environment whereby the youth of the community can share, grow and develop into productive citizens.

In addition to its educational initiatives, the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center also encourages participation in athletics. After receiving the Heroes Among Us award, the Wooten Center Midget All-Stars took the court to display their basketball skills in a friendly scrimmage with the Norwalk Bulldogs.

The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center is a great example of what is good in the Los Angeles community and is truly a Hero Among Us.
