D-Fenders Brighten Day for Patients of the Mattel Children’s Hospital
On April 5th, the Los Angeles D-Fenders visited the Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA. In attendance were Assistant Coach Chucky Brown and players Nick Lewis, Andre Patterson, Chet Mason, Sean Banks and Jackie Manuel.
The visit was held in conjunction with the hospital’s Child Life/Child Development Program, which was established in 1968 in recognition of the unique needs of pediatric patients. The program was one of the first in the country and continues to be a model for other medical centers.
On this day, players and patients enjoyed an afternoon of arts and crafts, board games and of course, a couple games of basketball. The highlight of the afternoon, however, was the Easter Egg Hunt. With the help of the D-Fenders, kids scoured the hospital wing for brightly colored plastic eggs filled with candy and stickers. Whether it was the hospital staff, the children or the D-Fenders, smiles were plentiful and everyone had a great time.
