Read Across America Day at
Center Street Elementary School

On Friday, March 1st, 2013 the Los Angeles D-Fenders participated in Read Across America Day at Center Street Elementary School. Read Across America Day coincides with Dr. Seuss’ birthday and is a day where kids and adults alike celebrate the joys of reading. To mark this exciting day four D-Fenders players made a special visit to Center Street Elementary to read out loud to eight classrooms ranging from kindergarten to 3rd grade. Each D-Fender player donned a “Cat in the Hat” Hat and chose a book from a collection of classic stories to read to the classes.

Jerome Jordan, Anthony Stover, Morris Almond and Zach Andrews (above photo -- left to right) divided and conquered the school by visiting eight classrooms and reading to approximately 250 kids all before their long afternoon practice. Each of the players were excited to celebrate with the kids and to show them that reading is something that you do your entire life and that it can be fun. As a special surprise the D-Fenders also presented the students with tickets to their next game at Toyota Sports Center.

Thank you Center Street Elementary School for inviting the D-Fenders to participate in Read Across America Day at your school! Keep Reading!!!
