Los Angeles Lakers superstars Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol are two of the most recognizable athletes in the 2012 London Olympic Games. However, Bryant and Gasol arenít the only two basketball players at the Olympics this year who have donned the purple and gold during their careers.

Both Sun Yue (China) and Mickael Gelabale (France), who each spent time with the Lakers and D-Fenders in 2008-09, both find themselves in the starting lineups for their home countries in search of an Olympic medal. While Sun and Gelabale arenít necessarily the same caliber players as Bryant and Gasol, itís impressive to see two former Lakers/D-Fenders playing on the biggest stage in the world.

A member of the 2009 Lakers championship team, Sun has scored five points, handed out four assists and swiped four steals in his two games for the Chinese National Team. The 6-foot-9 guard, who spent a season in Los Angeles before returning to China to play ball, averaged 9.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in six games for the D-Fenders.

Meanwhile, Gelabale, a 6-7 forward and member of the 2008 Lakers training camp roster, is averaging 8.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in Franceís upset win over Argentina and a loss to the United States. Gelabale, who averaged 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in six games for the D-Fenders, played in a Russia pro league during the 2011-12 season.
