HIDALGO, TX – The Los Angeles D-Fenders notched their 15th win in 16 games and equaled the franchise mark for most wins in a season after knocking off the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 96-89 on Thursday night. Los Angeles, now sitting with a 32-11 record, tied the franchise wins mark set by the 2007-08 squad that also won 32 games.

After Los Angeles’ devoted defensive effort in the second quarter that limited the league-leading Rio Grande Valley offense to 15 points (5-20 FG) and forced eight turnovers, the D-Fenders managed to stretch their lead to as many as 19 points before sealing the victory in the fourth quarter.

In the win, the D-Fenders managed to stall the Vipers offense, which averages 111 points scored per game, by holding them to 43 percent shooting, forcing 21 turnovers and swatting a team season-high 12 shots.

Elijah Millsap tallied 26 points (12-16 FT0, five rebounds and three steals, Jamario Moon totaled 17 points, nine rebounds, three steals and four blocks, and Otis George finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the D-Fenders. Additionally, Christian Eyenga dropped in 13 points to go with two blocks, and Malcolm Thomas registered a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double in front of the State Farm Arena crowd.

Rio Grande Valley (22-23) was paced by Greg Smith, who posted 27 points (11-15 FG) and nine rebounds, along with Jermaine Taylor, who recorded 15 points and four rebounds. Meanwhile, Tyren Johnson scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Vipers.

With the victory, the D-Fenders have won five-straight games overall and are now 3-0 against the Vipers this season.

Los Angeles returns to action tomorrow night to face Rio Grande Valley. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. CST, and the game is available for viewing online on NBA Futurecast.
