D-FENDERS SET RECORD IN
WIRE-TO-WIRE WIN OVER CANTON
EL SEGUNDO, CA – The Los Angeles D-Fenders never trailed and eclipsed the record for largest margin of victory in franchise history en route to a 127-87 win over the Canton Charge on Monday night. The win bested the previous record for margin of victory (32) that the D-Fenders set on November 28, 2011 against the Reno Bighorns.
Los Angeles (18-10), which led by as many as 43 points, entered the fourth quarter with the game in control after it outscored Canton by a combined 31 points in the second and third quarters.
Elijah Millsap (27 points, 5 rebounds), Gerald Green (24 points, 5 rebounds) and Brandon Costner (20 points) helped fuel the D-Fenders offense, which shot 55.7 percent from the floor as well as a season-high 72.2 percent from beyond the arc in front of the Toyota Sports Center crowd. Los Angeles also saw double-doubles from Derrick Caracter, who dropped in 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Mardy Collins, who tallied 10 points, 10 assists and three steals in the win.
After shooting 51.5 percent just two days earlier, Canton (12-15) saw their shooting percentage dip to 33.3 percent. Tyrell Biggs along with T.J. Campbell dropped in 14 points to lead Canton scorers while Antonio Graves scored 13 points. Frank Hassel chipped in 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Manny Harris added 10 points in the defeat.
The D-Fenders, who turned the ball over just 12 times and tied a team season-high with nine blocks, improve to 5-0 in Monday games this season.
Next up for Los Angeles is the Erie Bayhawks on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m., with the game available for viewing online through www.d-league.com/futurecast.
