D-FENDERS HANDLE BIGHORNS
RENO, NV – The road must be starting to feel like home for the Los Angeles D-Fenders after they handled the Reno Bighorns 109-78 for their third straight road win and fourth straight win overall on Friday night.
The D-Fenders (12-6), who set the franchise record for largest margin of victory (32) against the Bighorns in their first matchup this season on November 28th, held Reno to 38.5 percent shooting and forced 26 turnovers (opponent season high). What’s more, the D-Fenders shot an efficient 51.8 percent and totaled an impressive 74 points in the paint.
Elijah Millsap steered the scoring efforts for the D-Fenders with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds and two steals, Gerald Green finished with 17 points, four rebounds and two steals, and Malcolm Thomas tallied an efficient 16 points (8-9 FG), nine rebounds and two steals. Meanwhile, Orien Greene dropped 13 points (6-8 FG), four rebounds, four assists and four steals, and Brandon Costner, who yesterday was named NBA Development League Player of the Month for November and December, scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in the win at the Reno Events Center.
Reno’s (8-8) Blake Ahearn carried his squad with 22 points and four assists, and Zach Graham added 13 points. Playing off the bench, Hassan Whiteside totaled 10 points and nine rebounds while Terrance Thomas added 10 points. The remaining Bighorns players scored just a combined 23 points in the loss.
The D-Fenders next square off against the Bighorns tomorrow, January 7th, to finish the home-and-home series. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. and is available online on NBA Futurecast.
