IOWAS EARL BARRON SIGNS WITH NEW YORK KNICKS

NEW YORK, April 2, 2010 – The New York Knicks today signed center Earl Barron of the Iowa Energy making him the 33rd GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League season. Barron joins 78 current NBA players with NBA D-League experience.

Barron has appeared in 47 games, all starts, for Iowa this season, averaging 16.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 31.7 minutes. He scored in double-figures 39 times, registering 26 double-doubles. He scored a season-high 37 points in a 110-83 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce in Iowa on March 20. He pulled down a season-high 24 rebounds, to go with 35 points, in a 116-111 road win over the Erie BayHawks on March 3.

Undrafted out of Memphis in 2003, Barron returns to the NBA following a three-year stint with the Miami Heat between 2005 and 2008. In 82 career NBA games with the Heat, Barron averaged 4.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 13.9 minutes.

A four-year contributor at Memphis, Barron averaged 7.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 block during 26 games his senior season. As a junior, Barron was a member of the 2002 NIT Champion Tigers.

Barron is expected to join the Knicks today and be available tonight when New York travels to face the Golden State Warriors tonight.
