NEW YORK, March 3, 2010 – The Utah Jazz today signed Othyus Jeffers of the Iowa Energy, pending the outcome of a physical. He will be the 20th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA D-League season and joins 79 current NBA players with NBA D-League experience.
Jeffers, a 6-5 guard/forward out of Chicago’s Robert Morris, appeared in 22 games, 16 starts, for the Energy this season, averaging 14.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals. He scored in double-figures in 18 games, registering four double-doubles.
Originally selected in the third round of the 2008 NBA D-League Draft by the Energy, Jeffers was named 2009 NBA D-League Rookie of the year and was a 2009 NBA D-League All-Star.
Jeffers finished his collegiate career at Robert Morris, following two seasons at Illinois-Chicago. In his final campaign as an Eagle, he averaged 24.0 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 33 games, while shooting 61 percent from the field.
Jeffers is expected to join the Jazz on the road in Phoenix and be available when the team faces the Suns tomorrow night in Arizona.
