VOLUNTEER APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

This experience is a great opportunity for those individuals to experience firsthand how a professional sports team is organized and managed. You will gain experience in all aspects of the organization and be provided the skills necessary to succeed in future careers in sports.

All interested individuals must be motivated, creative, organized, team oriented, responsible, and have excellent communication and computer skills. Must be at least 18 years old, be willing to volunteer your time during non-traditional business hours, including weekends and holidays.

All candidates must live in or near Des Moines during their apprenticeship and must also have reliable transportation. Any potential moving/travel expenses are at your own expense.




IN-SEASON VOLUNTEER APPRENTICESHIP INFORMATION (October - April)

SALES
Responsibilities will include involvement in the administration and implementation of current sales programs, assisting in the research and development of new sales campaigns, database maintenance, monitoring and tracking of promotions as developed, and involvement in planning of game operations functions for the upcoming season. Individuals with creative minds and strong computer skills will be considered. The person is required to work assigned office hours in addition to games (hours vary depending on our game schedule).


MARKETING
Responsibilities will include involvement in the development and implementation of all grass-roots marketing. This position will research, design and execute events and plans to increase the team's database and capitalize on all market opportunities. Position is expected to leverage community events to provide ticket sales leads and increased awareness. Some graphic design or collateral creation is expected. Individuals with creative minds and strong computer skills will be considered. The person is required to work assigned office hours in addition to games (hours vary depending on our game schedule).


GRAPHIC DESIGN/PHOTOGRAPHY/MARKETING
Responsibilities will include creation of various marketing materials, including, but not limited to: entrance/exit marketing; group flyers; promotional flyers; event and game-specific advertisements; website media; etc. You will also assist in planning and creation of various elements used during Energy games; build and maintain photo galleries; assisting in the research and development of new sales campaigns; maintain various databases; monitor and tracking of promotions as developed. Individuals with creative minds and strong computer skills will be considered. The person is required to work assigned office hours in addition to games (hours vary depending on our game schedule).
*This position does require that you have access to associated design programs suitable to accomplish assigned products on your own personal computers (as many projects require time outside of office hours).


NEW MEDIA/VIDEO PRODUCTION
Responsibilities will include creation of various videos and media pieces throughout the season, including, but not limited to: sponsor fulfillment; sales projects; player interviews; community outreach projects; mascot skits; green screen and in-arena interactive elements; etc. Create short video recaps of games, team events, promotions, etc for use on social media sites and team website. You will be responsible for maintaining the team's YouTube accounts. You will also assist in planning and creation of various elements used during Energy games and related team opportunities. Individuals with creative minds and strong computer skills will be considered. The person is required to work assigned office hours in addition to games (hours vary depending on our game schedule).

TICKETING & FRONT OFFICE OPERATIONS
Responsibilities will include assisting in day to day and game-day ticketing, maintaining databases of season ticket accounts, group sales accounts, sponsorship fulfillment, and so on. This position will also play a vital role in the overall operation of the front office, as they will aid in player relations and projects needed by the League Office (as necessary). The person is required to work assigned office hours in addition to games (hours vary depending on our game schedule).


GAME OPERATIONS/EVENT MANAGEMENT (very limited availability)
Responsibilities include the administration of all team and game-day related events, preparations, entertainment, and so on. Primary responsibilities will include coordinating and managing all events during each respective Energy home-game, including, but not limited to, National Anthem Singers, pre-game speakers, halftime entertainers, dance teams, mascot, promotional events, sponsored contests etc. This position also helps plan, coordinate and execute all other team events and appearances. This individual must be a personable, creative, and dynamic person. Marketing or Sports Management majors are preferred, but not required. The person is required to work assigned office hours in addition to games (hours vary depending on our game schedule).


PUBLIC/MEDIA RELATIONS
Some of the PR/Media responsibilities of this individual will include securing speaking engagements for Iowa Energy Coaches and Staff, writing articles for website, writing game recaps and working with local and national media contacts, as well as helping create the PR and Marketing Plan for the season. These individuals must possess an in-depth knowledge of Basketball and have strong writing skills. Public Relations, Communications or Sports Management majors are preferred, but not required. The person is required to work assigned office hours in addition to games (hours vary depending on our game schedule).


ATHLETIC TRAINING/TEAM ASSISTANT (very limited availability)
Responsibilities will include assisting the gathering of statistical data for coaching staff and General Manager, participating in team draft and free agent analysis, assist with all practices and game-days, serve as liaison for visiting teams, work with front office staff on scheduling and attending team events, etc. This person will also participate in numerous special projects and team activities. The person is required to work approximately 30+ hours per week (this will vary depending on our practice & game schedules). This position is better suited for a recent college graduate or a part-time student, as the time commitment will be quite extensive throughout the season.


All Iowa Energy positions will have responsibilities in the Marketing/Sales/Community Relations departments, in addition to their primary responsibilities and game-day duties.

    SUMMER VOLUNTEER MARKETING/PROMOTIONS INFORMATION (May - August 2014)

    MARKETING & PROMOTIONS
    Responsibilities will include researching and implementing various activities and events related to increasing brand awareness and recognition of the Iowa Energy. These events will largely be charity and community based outings and appearances. Other duties will include: database building and maintenance; tracking of various promotions; serving as team mascot; ticket sales; lead generation; etc. These positions will require approximately 5-15 hours per week, depending on scheduled events. This is largely an "on-call" type of position, as many events are schedule with short-notice.
