Des Moines, IA (June 10, 2008) - The Iowa Energy announced today they have reached affiliation agreements with the Chicago Bulls and the Phoenix Suns for the 2008-2009 NBA Development League season.
“We couldn’t be happier with our affiliations for next season. The Bulls, with their local connection and rich history, are a natural fit as a partner. We are also ecstatic to have the Phoenix Suns on board, as they have become well known for their fast paced, high energy style of play. We are fortunate to have strong personal relationships with both Steve Kerr and David Griffin of the Suns, and with Vinny Del Negro, who today has been named Head Coach of the Bulls,” said Jerry Crawford, President and Managing Owner of the Energy.
The Suns advanced to the NBA playoffs for the 18th time in the past 20 seasons with a 55-27 regular season record. The Bulls finished their season with a 32-50 record, and did not make the playoffs. The Bulls won the 2008 NBA Draft lottery, and hold the first selection in this year’s NBA Draft.
“Both teams have outstanding young talent and each is committed to utilizing the Development League, which is very important to us. We want to showcase NBA talent during every Energy game, and the Bulls and Suns are committed to helping us achieve that goal,” said Nick Nurse, Energy Head Coach.
The Energy will begin their second season of play this November at Wells Fargo Arena. The team finished their inaugural campaign with a 22-28 record. The Energy featured several well known players including Jeff Horner, Adam Haluska, Curtis Stinson and Doug Thomas.
