Stampede Outlast Vipers in Overtime, 138-131
BOISE, Idaho, January 4, 2014 – The Idaho Stampede defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 138-131 in overtime.
With 23 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Vipers guard Troy Daniels made a 3-pointer in the corner to put Rio Grande Valley up by two points. Portland Trail Blazers assignee CJ McCollum answered with a lay-up for the Stampede to tie the game at 124 with just 10 seconds left in regulation. Vipers guard Chris Johnson got his lay-up to fall with just 1.1 seconds left to put his team up 126-124. Idaho guard Dee Bost threw the ensuing in-bounds play towards the rim to Dallas Lauderdale for the alley-oop dunk at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
Stampede guard Pierre Jackson took over from there, scoring 10 of the team’s 12 points in overtime to seal the second overtime victory of the year for Idaho. The Stampede posted season-highs in total points (138) and field goals (57-111) with four players scoring more than 20 points each.
Idaho was led by Pierre Jackson’s 39 points and five assists. Richard Howell (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Dallas Lauderdale (12 points, 17 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles in the win. Dee Bost finished with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists.
CJ McCollum recorded 24 points in 24 minutes while on assignment from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Rio Grande Valley was led by Troy Daniels with 32 points, including 10 3-pointers. Houston Rockets assignee Robert Covington added another double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Parrom pitched in with 27 points off the bench to go along with five rebounds and six assists.
