NEW YORK, Jan. 9, 2008 – The Portland Trail Blazers today assigned rookie forward Josh McRoberts to their NBA Development League affiliate, the Idaho Stampede, Trail Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard announced. McRoberts is the 23rd NBA player assigned from the NBA to the D-League and the 28th assignment of the 2007-08 season.
McRoberts, 6-10, 240 pounds, has appeared in three games with the Trail Blazers this season and is averaging 1.3 points in 2.3 minutes.
“We look forward to seeing Josh gain more experience through increased floor time with the Stampede,” said Pritchard. “Giving him the chance to log some minutes will help Josh with his professional development this season.”
Drafted by Portland in the second round (37th overall) in the 2007 NBA Draft following two years at Duke University, McRoberts posted career averages of 10.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 69 games (63 as a starter) for the Blue Devils.
McRoberts will join the Stampede days before Idaho hosts the fourth annual D-League Showcase, which features 14 games between all 14 D-League teams over the course of four days at Qwest Arena in Boise beginning on Monday, Jan. 14 and culminating on Thursday, Jan. 17. McRoberts will play his first game in a Stampede uniform on Friday, Jan. 11 when Idaho hosts the Colorado 14ers.
