McCollum's Debut

CJ McCollum made his professional debut when the Stampede took on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in a back to back series in January. The 10th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft was assigned to Idaho to prepare him for his debut with the Portland Trail Blazers. After breaking his foot during the preseason, McCollum had surgery and was sidelined while other rookies were showcasing their skills.

In his first game with the Stampede, McCollum recorded 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in just 17 minutes. Portland wanted CJ to play a similar role with the Stampede as he would with the Trail Blazers. So McCollum came off the bench and helped the Stampede finish quarters.

In his second game, he scored 24 points (11-23 FG) in 24 minutes and played a big role down the stretch to help Idaho get to overtime and defeat Rio Grande Valley.

"It felt good to get out there and compete again" McCollum said. "I'm just glad I was able to help the team win."

After being recalled by the Trail Blazers on January 4, McCollum made his NBA debut on January 8 against the Orlando Magic. McCollum has averaged 5.8 points and 13 minutes over the 5 games he's appeared in. He may go on to have a terrific career in the NBA, but his first career professional game will always be with the Idaho Stampede.
