Idaho wins 16th overall pick in D-League Draft

BOISE, ID, September 22, 2010 — The Idaho Stampede announced today they will have an NBA Development League Draft party at 4:30 p.m. MT on Nov. 1 at Legends Sports Pub and Grill, 7609 W. Overland Rd., Boise, ID 83709. The Draft will commence at 5 p.m. and features eight rounds of selections to be made by the 16 D-League teams.

Members of the Stampede ownership group, the coaching staff, front office personnel, Stampede Spirit Dance team members and AAA Rumble the mascot will be in attendance.

The Stampede secured the 16th overall pick in the NBA Development League Draft lottery, held yesterday in Dallas at the League’s annual coaches meeting. The Draft will be held via teleconference at league headquarters in New York.

The NBA D-League Draft utilizes a “serpentine” format, meaning the order will alternate in each of the eight rounds. Therefore, the Stampede will have the 16th overall pick, the last pick of the first round, and the 17th overall selection, the first pick of the second round.

“We are excited to have the draft party at Legends Sports Pub & Grill again this year. The season will truly be underway when we start making those selections on November 1,” Stampede President and General Manager Steve Brandes said. “We hope to see fans come out and support our coaches as they shape our roster.”

The order of the first round will be:

1. Reno Bighorns

2. New Mexico Thunderbirds

3. Maine Red Claws

4. Texas Legends

5. Springfield Armor

6. Iowa Energy

7. Rio Grande Valley Vipers

8. Utah Flash

9. Dakota Wizards

10. Fort Wayne Mad Ants

11. Sioux Falls Skyforce

12. Bakersfield Jam

13. Tulsa 66ers

14. Austin Toros

16. Idaho Stampede

"The lottery is always an exciting time because it signals the tip-off a new NBA D-League season,” said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. “With the Draft order in place, teams are one step closer to determining their opening day rosters for the 2010-11 season."
