BARTON, CLAVER ASSIGNED TO STAMPEDE FROM BLAZERS
Two players to join Idaho roster before weekend set against Austin

BOISE, Idaho, December 7, 2012 – The Idaho Stampede have been assigned Will Barton and Victor Claver from their hybrid single-affiliate team, Trail Blazers General Manager Neil Olshey announced today.

Barton and Claver are expected to play this weekend against the Austin Toros in the team’s home openers on Dec. 7 and 8. The assignments are the 37th and 38th of the 2012-13 NBA and NBA D-League seasons and the first for both Barton and Claver, who become the 28th and 29th individual players assigned this season.

“Victor Claver, he’s a guy with a high basketball IQ and has an extensive playing background having played for the national team in Spain,” Stampede Head Coach Mike Peck said. “So, he has a wealth of experience at a high level. Will Barton is extremely athletic and is very high-energy. He can play at a fast pace and has a lot of great reactive instincts for the game, but like many young players, he’s still learning to play at this level. He’ll help us.”

Barton (6-5, 170, Memphis, b. 1/6/91) joins the Stampede as a rookie after he was selected 40th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. Barton has played 16 games for Portland, averaging 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.8 minutes per game.

Claver (6-9, 224, Spain, b. 8/30/88) was originally selected 22nd overall by the Blazers in the 2009 NBA Draft before joining the Blazers for the first time this season. So far, Claver has played in four games and is averaging .3 points and 1.0 rebound in 5.8 minutes per game. Claver signed with Portland on July 11, 2012.

The Stampede open up the home slate on December 7 vs. Austin at 7 p.m. for a special night, Heroes at the Hardwood presented by Pioneer Federal Credit Union. The team will honor and celebrate active duty and veteran military personnel and their families. Fans can watch every D-League game live, for free, on NBADLeague.com powered by YouTube.
