Sioux Falls S.D. (Mar. 22, 2014) – The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Idaho Stampede 108-96 Saturday night at the Sanford Pentagon in front of a crowd of 3.387 that included Miami HEAT President Pat Riley. Sioux Falls had the hot hand all night shooting 63.8 percent in the second half and 56 percent for the night.
An improved defensive performance in the second half was key to Sioux Falls coming back from a six-point halftime deficit. During the second half, Idaho shot 37.1 percent and was 0-of-7 from three. Sioux Falls collected seven steals during the second half and turned eight turnovers into 10 points. After scoring 55 points in the first half, Sioux Falls held Idaho to 41 points in the second half including just 15 points in the fourth quarter.
The game was largely played on the inside as both teams scored the majority of their points in the paint. Idaho scored 50 of their 96 points and attempted 58 percent of their field goals in the paint and Sioux Falls scored 58 of their 108 points and attempted 60 percent of their field goals in the same area. An even battle was had on the boards, as Idaho eked out a one rebound advantage over Sioux Falls.
Sioux Falls (27-19) was led by Tre Kelley, who led all performers in both points (25) and assists (12) en route to a double-double. Miami HEAT assignee Justin Hamilton finished the night with a double-double of his own, notching 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Henry Walker flirted with a quadruple-double, finishing with 18 points, seven assists, seven blocks and six rebounds. DeAndre Liggins, Larry Drew and Craig Smith all chipped in 13 points.
Idaho (23-21) was led by Kevin Murphy’s 24 points and Darnell Lazare finished with 15. CJ Leslie and Dee Bost both finished with double-doubles as Leslie finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Bost tallied 12 points and 10 assists.
