Stampede coach joins Sacramento Kings staff

BOISE, Idaho, July 17, 2009 – The Idaho Stampede announced today Head Coach Bryan Gates has joined the Sacramento Kings organization as an assistant coach.

“We are thrilled about adding Bryan to our staff,” said Kings Head Coach Paul Westphal. “He has demonstrated excellence wherever he has gone and we are excited to provide him with this well deserved opportunity.”

After spending the better part of 12 years with the Stampede franchise, Gates will leave the Stampede as the winningest coach in team history (101-51) along with two Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year awards (2006-07 and 2007-08) and one NBA Development League Championship trophy (2007-08).

“The hardest part of my wife Robin and I leaving home is the support the Idaho Stampede family has given us over the years,” said Bryan Gates. “I am elated about the opportunity that Coach Westphal and the Sacramento Kings have given me and I can’t wait to get to work.” <.p> “After his 12 year quest to the NBA, Bryan has made it and we couldn’t be happier for him,” said Idaho Stampede Managing Investor Bill Ilett. “I am proud to say this is the fourth coach headed to the NBA from the Stampede.”
